Walking in Cappadocia Valleys

Walking excursions

Cappadocia's valleys offer infinite hiking route. Whatever the level of difficulty, it is necessary to bring sufficient water, and in summer, it is better to leave early in the morning to avoid the full sun. You can also benefit from the nights of full moon to discover a spectacle of fantastic colors. In all the cases, we can propose a route to you and, should you ask, an English-speaking guide.


Guided tours

If you have limited time or prefer to be guided during your stay the best way is to take a tour. There are several agencies in the region and here are some programmes to choose:

Blue Tour: 09:15 am pick up from the hotel. Devrent imagination valley (a lunar landscape), Zelve open air museum (houses carved in rock, Seljukian mosque & remains nearly from all the ancient civilizations), Pasabağları (Fairy chimneys), Ortahisar for Lunch, Avanos (pottery demonstration with the Hittite technique, Pigeon valley, Uçhisar rock-castle, Esentepe (panoramic view of Göreme valley) and Göreme open air museum (rock cut churches, frescos, monastery).
Green Tour: 09:15 am pick up from the hotel. Mustafapaşa (old Greek village Sinasos), Keşlik monastery, Taşkınpasa medresesi (an Ottoman theological school), Soğanlı valley (3 km walking in the traditional village, churches and Lunch), Cemil (Greek-orthodox church) and Kaymaklı underground city.
Red Tour: 09:15 am pick up from the hotel. Derinkuyu underground city, Ihlara canyon (4 km trek), Lunch in Belisırma village, Selime (Panoramic view point) and Ağzıkarahan (13th century Seljukian caravansaray on the silk road).

Details of the tours: The tour is up to 12 persons maximum, the rate includes transportation (air-conditioned, new and comfortable non-smoking vans), professional guide in English, lunch and all museum and historical sight entrance fees.

This is a lifetime experience and Cappadocia is probably the best place on earth to try this! There are sevaral companies and the prices range between 150 to 230 Euro per person depending on the tour (1 to 1 and a half hour flight). They will come and pick you up from your hotel (very early start to appreciate the sunrise) and will bring you back. Excursions on two wheelsIf you like the bicycle, the scooter or the motorbike, the landscape of Cappadocia is waiting for you! The terrain is flat to rolling with tremendous vistas. In July there is even an international mountain bike festival.

Geological tours

While studying the formation and evolution of volcanoes and their products (tuff, lava, pumice and obsidian), you will discover how the Cappadocian landscape was formed. You will also understand the role of erosion (rain and wind) shaping in the Cappadocian region as we see it today - the fairy chimneys and colourful tuff layers.

Hourse riding

For those who wish to move at a faster pace, some clubs offer excursions by horse. Tours can last from one hour up to one week, according to the request. This type of tours achieves close contact with nature along with a charming view of the area
